The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) created the technical standard ISO 14289-2 in 2021. It is additionally referred to as “Document management applications – Electronic document file format enhancement for accessibility – Part 2: Use of ISO 32000-1 (PDF/UA-2)”.
In order to guarantee that electronic document file formats, especially PDF (Portable Document Format), are usable and accessible to people with disabilities, this standard focuses on improving their accessibility features. It refers specifically to ISO 32000-1, the standard that defines the PDF format, and expands upon ISO 14289-1 (PDF/UA-1), which establishes the framework for accessible PDF publications.
